Worthington, Oakland, Topeka, and Newport News Expand Reference Services with BusinessDecision

Pasadena, CA — January 11, 2008 — CIVICTechnologies, the 2007 ESRI Business Partner of the Year (CA) and the leading provider of geographic information system (GIS) data to libraries, announced today that four more public libraries have joined the growing list of BusinessDecision subscribers. According to Marc Futterman, president of CIVICTechnologies, Worthington Libraries (OH), Oakland Public Library (CA), Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library (KS), and Newport News Public Library (VA) are at the leading edge of supporting economic development in their communities with such business planning tools as market segmentation data and GIS mapping technology.

"BusinessDecision provides the kind of demographic data and market segmentation information that’s simply not available in any of our existing business resources," said Jeff Regensburger, lead librarian at Worthington Libraries' Northwest Library. "We expect start-up businesses, established businesses, marketing companies and developers will all find value in the data BusinessDecision provides. We also see a lot of partnership potential for using BusinessDecision with our local Chamber group and City Government." Worthington Libraries was named 2007 Gale/Library Journal Library of the Year.

Regensburger said Worthington Libraries looks for products that will support business and economic development in their community. In BusinessDecision, he said, they found a powerful combination of detailed demographics with a best-in-class GIS system. "The market segmentation data and demographic reports provided by BusinessDecision can often cost small businesses hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Being able to provide this information to our area businesses at no cost to them just makes sense. It’s exactly the kind of return on investment libraries should offer."
